Rhodia’s history in the region dates back to 1970 when Rhône-Poulenc opened an office in Moscow.

In 1997 the company opened a local production site for acetate tow in Serpukhov - Sertow LLC - which is the only manufacturer of acetate tow in Russia and CIS.
In 1994 Rhodia appointed an agent in Kazakhstan and in June 2011 signed a letter of intent with SIBUR to create a joint venture in specialty surfactants.
